Have you been noticing some heavy chaos and upheaval lately?
It’s showing up in our personal lives as well as the human collective, so that we may feel like there’s an energetic cyclone blowing through!
Fear, disruption, uncertainty, or drama may be hitting a crescendo, which feels strangely at odds with the lazy days of Summer that are just beginning for us in the Northern hemisphere.
The end of May and beginning of June has long been a favorite time of year for me. When I was a kid, it was because of school letting out and the Summer heat returning! It’s the time of year when my husband and I first met, and our younger daughter’s birthday also occurs at this time.
To me, Summer days feel like joy, plenty, and ease - slow mornings and late sunsets, watermelon and popsicles on the porch, fireflies and evening swims…
Despite all that, there’s a tension in the air right now that’s palpable.
The other day, the Schumann resonance was spiking higher than I’ve seen it in probably a year.
The new moon in Gemini, on May 30th, especially felt like we were being invited to close down some old channels, and mindfully re-focus our attention elsewhere.
New moons are about beginnings and endings; about retreating and regrouping; about making sense of and befriending the neglected, atrophied parts of ourSelves.
This might look like asserting your boundaries for more space and alone time - or saying no to things that actually, just aren’t doing much to uplift your mental state.
As Gala Darling says - chase JOY like it’s your JOB.
Prioritizing your joy is not just a nice idea for when we aren’t busy with more important things.
It’s literally how we raise the collective vibration of the planet.
Joy IS the important thing!
So, maybe quit being so patient with basic bullshit in your life? :)
Additionally, Saturn is going retrograde on June 5th.
Usually we hear more about Mercury retrograde (which ended yesterday!).
Astrology newbies worry about retrogrades because they think it means “bad things” are more likely to happen.
In my opinion, retrogrades feel more like opportunities for growth.
Retrogrades tend to manifest potential pattern-breakers or choice points, where we can either decide to step out of unhelpful cycles and choose something new - or, we can resist the lessons dished up, dig in our heels, and (quite likely) end up having a predictable, not-so-fun time…
Things are going well, you’ve made progress in your life, and then your ex texts out of the blue?
You’ve been sober and quietly proud of yourself, and then you’re having the best time with dear friends - and find yourself being offered a drink?
In both these scenarios we probably “know” which choice is more growth-oriented - but sometimes, we like to repeat the same lessons over and over, just to be sure!
It’s very ‘human’ of us to do this … until we decide we’re tired of that game.
Another way this energy can show up is being offered an opportunity for something that’s "sorta-kinda” what we want, but isn’t quite right.
Maybe this new job offer is a solid 7, but you’ve been manifesting a 9 or 10.
Or - maybe it’s fantastic, but it shows up in a way where there’s a tradeoff involved, or strings attached...
Should we accept and count our blessings, or should we turn it down and trust that there’s something better on the way?
There are no “wrong” choices, really - because we either win or learn … but right now, it’s best to be as efficient as we can with our awakening!
We are living through a time of extremes, and part of the turbulence we’re feeling in the collective is an urgency to learn what we need to level up, to be ready to hold even more light frequencies for a new paradigm to emerge.
We are being invited to evolve into a higher, more crystalline, more loving frequency - but the keyword is invited. We always retain the power of free will - including the will to choose things that are not helpful for our evolution - either collectively or personally.
To anchor into this new way of being, we’ve got to be willing to release our fond old habits of righteousness, of resistance, of us-versus-them thinking.
It may feel good, familiar, even “correct” - but if it’s rooted in duality, it’s tripping you up, friend.
So, back to Saturn - he’s the responsible planet who presides over things like career, discipline, perseverance, and integrity.
A retrograde in Saturn, therefore, may highlight where our actions and intentions aren’t in alignment - where we’ve been slacking or lying to ourselves, when we really knew better, deep down. Intuitively.
You know … those little pings from the ether that we know are true … but feel too inconvenient to acknowledge?
Yep, it’s time to quit dismissing yourSelf like that.
With a Saturn retrograde, you may be unexpectedly confronted with an issue you thought you’d already dealt with in the past - money challenges or trouble with a father-figure, for example.
Don’t take this as a sign of failure if it occurs - instead, acknowledge it as an opportunity to confirm all that growth and hard work you’ve already put in to solving this pattern in your life.
You’re more savvy now, and the Universe is showing you just how far you’ve come.
This could also look like health challenges showing up, when you’ve been discounting or minimizing the early cries for help from your body - or else, resentment or bitterness in a relationship may finally boil over into anger.
Remember, the energy of new beginnings is still on your side, if you find that it’s time to burn some things down and start forging a new path.
Yet Saturn is a planet of steadfastness, of resilience, of persevering in the face of challenges. It represents grit and determination, and the value of not giving up too soon.
It’s time to make a choice. Different this time? Or reach for another blindfold?
Saturn reminds us that it’s always better to begin with firm foundations, than to build sky-high on shaky ones.
This Saturn retrograde lasts until October 23rd, and so the next few months will be a time where we’ll be invited to dig in, do the work, make the changes we’ve been putting off or avoiding, and to re-commit to living in integrity with our highest values.
This is a time of getting clear with our karma, and deciding what’s truly important to us.
To know what is right, and not to DO it, is worse than not knowing at all.
This is a time for lessons to be integrated.
Radical self-honesty will guide you.

You may have noticed I always capitalize Self. That’s because I’m referring to our Higher Self, which is always nudging and whispering guidance to help us - even if our human self gets in the way of listening.
